Dr. Jacquelyn Smith B. Sc., O.D.
Originally from Halifax, Dr. Smith graduated from Dalhousie University with a BSc in 1997. She then went on to the University of Waterloo where she graduated as a Doctor of Optometry in 2001. As an Optometry student, Dr. Smith completed an ocular pathology and therapeutics internship at the Omni Eye Centre in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Smith practiced optometry in British Columbia for a year before returning home to Halifax. She then accepted a position as Clinical Director at TLC Laser Eye Centers in Halifax. As Clinical Director she has counselled and provided care to hundreds of patients before and after their refractive surgery. She has lots of experience dealing with both LASIK and PRK and has extensive training with refractive surgery’s newest advancement, CUSTOM or wavefront technology. In January 2004, Dr. Smith joined Doctors’ Eye Clinic as an associate optometrist. She currently works 2 days a week in our Spryfield Location and 2 days in either our Halifax or Lower Sackville office. Dr. Smith enjoys all aspects of private practice and is happy to see new patients of any age.
Dr. Smith has been very active in the optometry community. While in university, she was president of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) for a two-year term. She currently serves as a council member on both the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO) and the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO). Dr. Smith also volunteers as the CAO representative on the Canadian Examiners in Optometry (CEO) and the Canadian Optometric Regulatory Authority (CORA).
As a student, Dr. Smith participated in two eye care missions to Mexico, providing eye health examinations and glasses to those in need. She currently volunteers with the United Way.
Dr. Smith enjoys the outdoors; camping, biking, and canoeing. She also loves to travel and spend time with her family in Waverley.
